Locks Heath – home

Knights win toss and elected to bat.

Knights Valley – 193-8

Locks Heath III – 154-10

Knights Valley win by 39 runs.
Finally, we were back to playing cricket!

The home pitch was a road for our first home game of the season. Aaron and Dave got off to a decent start, putting on 50 for the first wicket, before Aaron fell for 33. Stand in skipper Lee (Pete away on a field trip) and Dave had another useful partnership of 50 before Dave fell for 29. Lee went to an outrageous one handed, flying catch for 34.

The middle order then contributed to the score, barbs, John, Sam and Kev hitting handy runs. Ajit came and went without troubling the score, this brought Jason in with Nathan. Jason impressively helping Nathan with some quick running and Nathan hitting a ballistic 41no.

After teas, Sam and Aaron got us off to a great start, reducing Locks Heath to 50-5. Ajit being the pick of the fielders with 2 run outs and a good catch.

After consolidating, Locks Heath managed to get to around the 150 mark for the loss of 7 wickets. Jon, Ajit, Jason and Nathan all bowled well but struggled to take the final wickets.

After Aaron had finished his allotted overs, the stand in skipper brought Sam back on at the road end and himself on the opposite end, in a desperate move to try and dislodge the last 3 Locks Heath bats.

In the 40th over Sam got a caught and bowled, reducing the opposition to 8 down and then finally, in the 41st over, after being spanked for consecutive boundaries Lee managed to get one to nip away for the 9th wicket and with the very next ball, he finished off Locks Heath with a ball that nipped back (possibly the batsman missed a straight one but I prefer ‘nipped back!’) and after some exuberant celebrations from the home team, the two sides exchanged hand shakes.

All in all, a good win but one that could have been over quicker if catches had been taken.

Kudos to Locks Heath for digging in and in the end, making a much closer game than the Knights would have liked.

As they say, a win is a win and we march onwards!!

Back over to you Pete….!
